 Soca Monarch semi-finalists announced Basseterre, St. Kitts: The Carnival Committee has announced the results of Friday night’s Soca Monarch semi-finals.
Moving on to the Groovy Soca Finals are:
Ali D, A Stitch in Time, Cinnamon, Konris, Nickhail, Anastasia, Shakki Starfire and X-Man.
The performers who will come up against reigning Monarch King Konris in the Power Soca segment are:
Ali D, A Stitch in Time, Contenda, Fantastic Tunda, Mighty Honesty, Mighty Takeover, Mr. World and Shakki Starfire.
Apart from the Soca Monarch Finalists selected by the judges this year, one additional Power Finalist will be selected based on a text to vote promotion to be launched. Fans will have the opportunity to text the name of their favourite Power Semifinalist not selected by judges to the Soca Monarch Finals.
According to the press release received by WINN FM just after midday on Saturday, the Semi-Final Competition was judged by five Judges selected from a pool on Friday night. The results were verified by Price Waterhouse Coopers Auditors.
The Beaumont Park Soca Monarch Finals is scheduled to take place in the Sugar Mill on Friday December 23rd at the Sugar Mill.
Veteran performer Contenda, Lincoln Maynard is the father of the defending Monarch Konris “King Konris” Maynard.
Mr. Maynard Senior who has not competed in the National Competition for close to ten years, told WINN FM recently that his decision to get back on stage was his personal nod to the 40th anniversary of Carnival.
This is not the first time a parent and child will come up against each other in competition in the Federation. Last year Socrates and his daughter Anastasia faced off in the Finals in the Senior Calypso Competition. There was some upset after the show wrapped up in the wee hours of Saturday morning, when the results were not announced.
